At Little Ashcan, our young artists explored the beauty of everyday objects through a colorful watercolor project inspired by American artist Carolyn Brady!
Brady was known for her vibrant watercolor still lifes, capturing ordinary objects and everyday moments with a special appreciation for color, composition, and detail. Her work often featured tabletops, flowers, and familiar objects, transforming simple subjects into beautiful works of art. Taking inspiration from Brady’s approach, our students chose their favorite fruits as the subjects of their paintings. 🍓🍊🍐
Students used:
Watercolor paper 📄
Graphite pencils ✏️𓂃
Watercolor paint 🎨
They began by carefully sketching their fruit, observing its shape and details before bringing their drawings to life with watercolor paint. Through this process, students practiced observation, drawing, color mixing, and watercolor techniques while learning how to create a balanced composition.
