This week, our Little Ashcan artists explored character design and sculpture through a fun air-dry clay project inspired by the playful creations of Sticky Monster Lab. Known for their imaginative monster characters and storytelling, Sticky Monster Lab encourages artists to think beyond reality and create unique personalities through design.
Students began by sketching their own character ideas using colored pencils, planning colors, features, expressions, and special details. They were encouraged to use their imagination and create something completely original.
After completing their designs, students brought their characters to life using air-dry clay. They learned how to build three-dimensional forms, attach different pieces, and add creative details that helped make each character unique. Once dry, students painted their sculptures with bright colors and expressive features.
The finished sculptures showcase a wonderful variety of personalities, from cute creatures and fantasy animals to imaginative characters inspired by stories, games, and everyday life. Through this project, students practiced creative thinking, design planning, sculpture techniques, and artistic expression while having fun exploring the possibilities of clay.
We are proud of the creativity, effort, and individuality shown in each student's work. Every sculpture is a reminder that great ideas can come from a simple sketch and a little imagination!
