Little Ashcan Creative Minds: Rocking Basquiat Self-Portraits!

Bold, Colorful, and Totally You!

This week at Little Ashcan, our creative superstars dived into the exciting world of Jean-Michel Basquiat! Known for his wild colors, jagged shapes, and graffiti-inspired energy, Basquiat loved the playful, “wonky” style of children’s art—and so do we! His bold, fearless approach inspired our students to think outside the lines and have fun with every brushstroke.

For their project, kids painted acrylic self-portraits in Basquiat’s signature style. They used bright colors, quirky shapes, and expressive lines to show off their personalities. There were no rules here—just imagination and lots of energy! Everyone embraced the slightly messy, totally creative style that makes Basquiat’s art so unforgettable.

The results were amazing! Each self-portrait popped with color, energy, and personality. Our young artists learned that art is about expressing yourself, being bold, and having fun. Just like Basquiat, they discovered that creativity has no limits—and every canvas became a celebration of their unique, brilliant minds!
